Let’s do this one big for the pirate

GAHHHH. Just wanna give an anti-shout-out to one Adam James for ruining my New Year’s Eve celebration. Don’t want to get into it right now, because I’m in a good mood, listening to heavy metal and still coasting on adrenaline from my sub-freezing run earlier, BUT I’m just going to say that there is something rotten in Lubbock.

If you’re not into sports or you’ve been living in a basement (or electrical closet) for the past week, the big news in West Texas is that football coach Mike Leach was, in my opinion, inexplicably fired after allegations surfaced that he confined a player with a concussion to what was first described as a shed and an electrical closet (Leach’s lawyer claims they were actually a garage and a media room.) Instead of conducting an investigation, they suspended Leach (a suspension that would have included the bowl game this weekend) and then just all-out fired him. It should be noted that the player (aka Mr. Run Home To Your Daddy) is the son of ESPN analyst and former SMU running back Craig James.

I mean, crap. Bobby Knight choked a kid and Texas Tech HIRED him. (Reminds me of that line from Airheads: “Christ, Vince Neil only got 30 days and he killed somebody!”)

But let’s move on…

I’m OFF WORK TODAY and enjoying the hell out of it! When the cat woke me up at 6 a.m., I didn’t even mind having to get up and feed her before crawling back into bed and sleeping ’til 9.

I did a quickie 3 miler in my neighborhood. I really didn’t want to, but I think I’m getting a lot more tolerant of the cold. This time last year, I retreated to the gym any time it was less than 50°F outside. Today I thought, ‘hey, its 33° outside, nice and warm!’

We’re going to a little shindig tonight at a buddy’s house; nothing crazy. After all, NYE is Rookie Night, and there’s no reason to go all out and spend money just so you can not remember anything about your Big Night. That was okay when I was 16. Now, not so much. When I party, I like to remember it.

Safe driving, people. Peace – see you tomorrow.
