perpetual headwind

Indiana hates me.

I went running tonight, ya know, just to get that bothersome second-post-sick-run out of the way, and I swear, the wind was blowing at me no matter which direction I turned. Really rude.

And, that fugly toenail that has been bugging me for months is growing another toenail underneath it. Fine. I didn’t like that toenail anyway.

Ew.

Lunch. At least lunch never lets me down.

Veggie monstrosity from Panera.

Then I broke my one-coffee-a-day rule and had another grande bold after lunch, so my eyeballs were shaking by the time I left work.

You’d think that would have given me an extra boost for my run tonight, but I still felt like I was moving in slow-mo. Like when you’re getting chased in a dream and no matter how hard you try, you just don’t get anywhere? Yeah. Fun like that. I felt a lot better than I did on Saturday, but I was still freakishly slow.

I did, coincidentally, get chased– by a couple of dachshunds, which pretty much made my evening. They had just come outside with their owner, and the two little guys pounded across the lawn -which still had about four inches of snow on it, reaching about shoulder height on them- barking their faces off at me. I actually stopped because I wasn’t sure how far they were going to chase me and I didn’t want their mom to have to go on my run with me. It would have been scary if it hadn’t been so adorably pathetic…Just kidding, there’s no way it could have been scary.

And now that I seem to be nursing a major coffee hangover, I’m going to attempt some actual hydration and also put some more food in me.

Cheers – Goodnight!

Edamame me!

Must be Monday. I feel like I’m in one of those old V8 commercials. I’m pretty sure it’s my body’s way of telling me to lay off the booze and meat and go raw for a few days.

So I’m sitting in my little cubicle at work and devouring a veggie sandwich with cucumber, avocado, tomato, purple onions, roasted red peppers and romaine lettuce, and I’m washing it down with a greek salad. (forgot my camera today; no pics). When you’re feeling sluggish, the best thing you can do is eat some green things!

I’ve got some edamame and lentils I need to unload from the fridge so for dinner I’m going to throw them in with some corn, red peppers, tomato, basil, scallions and mozzarella with balsamic dressing for a great big salad.

Since I’m now in my “tapering off” phase of half-marathon training, tonight will be an eeeeasy three mile run. The weather outside is perfect, calm, 62°. Ahhhh.

Lately all I have to do is think about running and it immediately uplifts me. What “they” say about exercise improving your mental health is so, so true.

After spending a day cooped up in a cramped office, sitting under blinding flourescents in a less-than-ergonomic office chair, running is what absolutely keeps me from going insane(r).
